Mother Nature's Present
This week… I have something a little different I'd like to share with you…
“We Are Like The Birds. We Adapt. We Sing”
David Byrne
So, this week I’m doing things a little differently, and instead of a (long) blog post, I would like to share with you a (short_er) poem…
“Hallelujah, she won’t be rambling on for ages this week”! 🙌🏻
As are the laws of life…
On occasion we may be merrily sauntering along…
Most of the time, however, we are probably appearing calm and composed on the surface, whilst madly paddling like crazy underneath…
AND THEN… we have those heart-stopping moments where we’re blindsided by some hefty, unexpected curveball; one that we are powerless to dodge!
And so I wrote this poem a couple of months ago, at a time when I was scrambling to regain some composure as one such MF came hurtling my way…
Around the same time, Steve and I were lucky enough to have a few days away together planned, in the stunning Cotswolds countryside, supposedly as a bit of quality-time-together-slash-post-study-celebration, that actually became a perfectly-timed escapism…
I have never felt so compelled to be closer to nature, and the comforting reassurance it can provide; hope… healing… solace… gratitude… peace.…
I find it CALMING when I’m anxious… COMFORTING when I’m afraid… and REASSURING when I’m feeling vulnerable…
Oops, I promised no long ramblings this week!!! So I’ll shut up now and sign off, and leave you with this … 💛
“Mother Nature’s Present”
Bare soles braced yet vulnerable,
Footfall imprinting the ground,
The path is intentional,
The transition profound.
Roads well-travelled lead away from the city,
Over stile and bridge, beyond meadow and brook,
Serene… idyllic… enchanting and tranquil,
The adventure a chapter in an unfinished book.
Forsaking artificial skies,
Tainted manmade illumination,
Toward faithful rural verdure,
A united congregation.
Leaving behind the material,
Shedding the affliction,
Gently releasing constraints,
And difficult conversation.
Paths meander through the landscape,
A transcendent journey of hope,
Reunited with lost origins,
An expansion of existential scope.
The landscape calls to me…
The trees inviting…
The flowers empower me…
The hills enticing.
The church bells sound,
Calling to those in need,
A refuge of quiet and calm,
Inner peace safely freed.
Clear air allows me to breathe,
Deep, releasing, and free,
Rescuing constricted lungs,
From the clutches of anxiety.
The sky alive with soaring birds,
Their musical melody sounding,
They celebrate my arrival,
They symbolise my grounding.
Radiant sunbeams pierce the canopy,
Dispersing light across the deep,
A rainbow of promise befalling the dark,
Revived from subliminal sleep.
The rhythmic sway of the grass,
As it waltzes on the breeze,
Confirms to me the necessity,
Of dancing life’s song with ease.
The cool keen water,
As I dangle my toes,
Brings me back to the present,
Not adrift with my woes.
Honeyed stone and cobbled walls,
Life stories been and gone,
Yet nature stands steadfast still,
Uniting us all as one.
Every flower a cog in mother nature’s machine,
Blooms rich in nectar enchanting the bees,
Fields of lavender more than mere beauty,
The aromatic foliage relaxes and soothes me.
I stand and gaze for hours at a time,
As the minutes disappear,
For time slows down profoundly,
There is no need for it here.
Laying down upon the earth,
A gesture of surrender,
Grants me cherished serenity,
No longer conformity’s contender.
We may not have control of what,
But we determine how,
There is no other time,
We have only now.
