Tuning In To Intuition
How often do we really tune in to what’s going on for us… to strip everything back and just come to settle with the deepest most intuitive part of ourselves; what is it we feel… sense… hear…?
“Intuition Is The Whisper Of The Soul”
Jiddu Krishnamurti
Complete space away from to-do lists, responsibilities, distractions, technology…
For me, not often enough that’s for sure!
If I get a spare minute between tasks, I instantly reach for my phone to fill the void…
The Intuition Challenge
Well, last week I flipped this by doing a five-day intuition challenge!
This involves sitting in a quiet, undisturbed(!) space for 30 minutes, every day for five days, considering a specific question or something we need help or direction with, then resting our minds and tuning in to our intuition…
And then writing down whatever comes up, like everything! For example, on my list was “I need to scratch my nose”, but then some other, more helpful things came up too (thank goodness)!
So, my question was around my writing, and how I progress with this, to achieve what I want to achieve, and I just listened to what was coming up in response…
Day 1 was pretty uncomfortable. 30 minutes felt like such a long time, I kept glancing at the clock but I swear the digital digits weren’t altering.
But I stuck with it… and every 10 seconds I was scribbling down something or another.By Day 3 I noticed something really interesting… my writing had taken on a third person stance, with phrases like, “You are…”, “You need…”. Almost as if these messages were coming from someone or somewhere else – my intuitive voice perhaps?
By Days 4 and 5 I noticed my thoughts had slowed down, I settled quicker into the quiet resting mode, and the practice was becoming easier. (Even though 30-minutes undisturbed went out the window as ‘A’ came racing in to tell me he’d just won his latest battle on fortnite!?)
The Message
So, (other than nose scratching), within these five days, I had several recurring messages come up, such as “Have faith”, “Believe”… and I was tuning in to other senses and feelings, such as warmth, light and hope… hearing that I should trust my feelings and follow what feels right.
And looking back over these five days, what do I think my intuition is trying to say to me? I need to have more confidence and belief in myself.
I often shy away from situations and opportunities for fear of failing, not being good enough, not being competent, worrying about getting it wrong, and so I miss out on so much for never trying hard enough to see if I can make it work…
And this, my passion for writing, is something I really want to work, so I need to keep trying, I need to work hard at it and I need to hold on to faith that I can achieve what I want to achieve…
But this exercise has also made me realise how out of touch I can be with myself. I don’t allow myself enough time and opportunity to just sit and settle and just let things be, switch my poor over-worked mind off and just listen to what I really want and need…
So, how about you? How in touch are you with your intuition?
How often do you take time to switch off and tune-in?
Would you have a go at the five-day intuition challenge to see what comes up?
Or does this all sound a little far-out and mystical?
Which is understandable, but there is science behind it…
So, the definition of intuition is: “the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning.”
Now scientists refer to the gut as the “second brain”!
It contains hundreds of millions of neurons (more than the spinal cord), which suggests incredible processing abilities.
And our gut communicates directly with our brain via the vagus nerve, which runs from the brain stem all the way down to the abdomen.
The gut is considered a critical regulator for mental processes, such as receiving, choosing, storing and processing information.
Basically, it’s about climbing down from our heads and our over-thinking brains, and trusting in the innate feelings within us… trusting our gut!
At the end of the day, this can be another tool within our reach which we can use to connect with the deepest most instinctive parts of ourselves, which in turn will help us to move forward more authentically…
Well I'm going to give it a go . But I can't sit a minute with my own thoughts! Wish me luck xx
Loved this. I’m going to try your 5 day challenge. Thank you for sharing Julie 🙏
